Fukusumi was one of the post towns visited by the daimyo\'s procession during the Edo period (1603-1867).
Fukusumi has been designated as one of the “Preservation Districts for Groups of Historic Buildings” in recognition of its 3-km continuous landscape of rows of merchant houses and old private houses dating back to the Edo period, and the countryside behind the buildings.
